Russian Winter Wonderland
In winter 2010, Ray Zahab (KapiK1 Co-Founder and Guide) and good friend Kevin Vallely ran the length of Lake Baikal, 650km (over 700 covered), in 13 days. They were totally unsupported, and shared the expedition daily with students around the world. When Ray and Kevin reached the Olkhon Island region, Ray knew he’d be back someday to explore the lake West to East, it was so spectacular.
On many of their expeditions together, Ray and fellow KapiK1 Co-Founder and Guide, Stefano Gregoretti talked about this awesome place and that it would make a perfect KapiK1 Expedition location.
Based on the success of our 2020 KapiK1 Expedition Siberia, we are excited to announce a whole new route for our next adventure!
Our journey across Lake Baikal will be an unsupported expedition through some of the most incredible scenery the mind can imagine. From beautiful mountains to crystal clear ice, we will see and experience this region of Siberia, Russia, in winter... when it's the most beautiful and most challenging. We will camp on the ice, with each person dragging all of their gear and supplies with them, including tent, food and survival gear. Each night, we will meet in a common area- the ‘dome tent’ and eat together, reminiscing about the day, and planning our strategy for the next.
9 days from the time you arrive in Russia until departure, with the 6 days we spend on the ice together, divided into specific goal oriented destinations, with each day including specific objectives!
