Expedition Death Valley
Every expedition or adventure holds special memories for KapiK1 founder Ray Zahab. From the windswept desert plateau of Antarctica, to the towering sand dunes of the Tenere in the Sahara to the deep rainforests of the Amazon, and the frigid glaciers of the Arctic. All are beautiful, most are ruggedly remote, and every single one of them worthy of our appreciation, and a visit!
But there is a place so diverse, with so many changing and fascinating geographies, that one could take a lifetime to explore in its entirety. And it’s right in your backyard. The United States of America!
One location in particular that Ray has explored over the years, and is drawn back to annually is Death Valley National Park in California.
A place that is both astonishingly beautiful and deadly at the same time. Literally the hottest place on Earth, but a place where cool freshwater streams run if you know where to find them. A place where species of wildlife thrive, delicately in an ecosystem that can seem so harsh, unforgiving, and lifeless. This place where Indigenous Peoples thrived and called home for thousands of years, and where the pioneers who crossed it, barely survived their ordeal, nicknaming it Death Valley. Without any doubt, this is one of the most beautiful places we have ever seen and experienced.
Your expedition begins at one of the most northern points in Death Valley National Park, and continues for 6 days through some of the most rugged and diverse wilderness you can imagine. We will cross salt flats, dry river washes, rocky plateaus, sand dunes and otherworldly terrain.
Wildlife is all around us, and its not uncommon to see rattlesnakes, scorpions, desert hare, coyotes and even cat tracks!
As with our Atacama Expedition, emphasis will be put on learning navigation and topographic map skills throughout the adventure. Evening camps will be fully stocked with amazing food, support and personal tents.
Join us on an unforgettable adventure through one of the most amazing places on the planet.
